The brief
What the situation actually was
A direct-to-consumer watch brand moving into wholesale. The channel was new, the target was independent retailers and boutiques across several markets, and nobody had a list.
Lead generation sounds like a volume problem and is not. Anybody can produce two thousand rows. The expensive failure is a sales team working a list where half the addresses bounce and a third of the businesses were never a fit, because that burns the team’s confidence in the list itself.
The work
What came off their desk
In the order it was handed over, which matters more than the list.
-
01
Targeted prospect research
Identifying retailers that genuinely matched the brand on positioning, price point and sustainability stance, rather than anybody who sold watches.
-
02
Data enrichment
Finding the actual decision-maker and a route to them, instead of a generic info@ address nobody reads.
-
03
List verification
Checking before delivery rather than letting the sales side discover the dead rows.
-
04
Pipeline building
Structuring the output so it could be worked in sequence rather than arriving as an undifferentiated dump.
How it ran
The order of operations
Fit criteria came before any searching. We agreed what disqualified a prospect, which is more useful than what qualifies one, and that definition did most of the filtering before a single row was collected.
Then the slow part: each prospect checked by hand against those criteria, the decision-maker identified, the contact route verified. This is unglamorous work that does not compress, and attempting to compress it is what produces lists nobody trusts.
Delivery was in prioritised batches rather than one file, so the sales side could start while the research continued and feed back on what was converting.
The outcome
What had changed by the end
Stated plainly. Where there is no number, there is no number.
- A verified pipeline that translated into new wholesale partnerships.
- Deliverable lists the sales side worked rather than argued with.
- Two years of continuous engagement on a function that is usually outsourced per project.
- Fit criteria documented, so the brand could brief anybody else the same way later.
Supported our growth through targeted lead generation and meticulous online research. His data enrichment built us a robust sales pipeline.
What it taught A lead list is a trust instrument. Once a sales team stops believing the rows, the volume is worthless.
